Chapter 2 – The Vanishing Glass
What a lively discussion this chapter created! I’m always thrilled with the word J.K. Rowling chose to use to tell the story and are delighted when my students discover the nuances of the words.
Some of the discussions were:
- How the Dursley’s treat Harry? Do your parents wake you in the morning? How is it different then Harry’s aunt?
- What is your oldest memory?
- What does it mean to compare and contrast something? Does it have to be absolutely identical or can it be similar?
- How do you think the snake felt in the cage? What makes you say that?
This is the worksheet we did together. I want to know that my students really do comprehend what we are reading, not just going through the motions and doing it together and getting input from many of the students helps their understanding and mine. I love the discussions and learning how some of the students rationalize their point of view.
