The Irish Rovers Song – The Unicorn

March 13, 2011

The Unicorn Song on video complete with the movements performed by 3 year olds.

Classic Irish Rovers performance.

Although I found more examples of the movements with this song by adults in a bar setting, it is a fun song to do with kids.  You can ask them what they think the movements could be for each animal in the song.  They are:

  • alligator
  • long necked goose
  • humpty back camel
  • chimpanzees
  • cats
  • rats
  • elephants
  • and, of course, unicorn

My question is, why is this song considered an Irish song?  Is it just because the Irish Rovers sang it?  Curious minds want to know!

Where did you find the movements for the barroom version? I have everything but "cats and rats". Thanks.

Some I remember from doing it in the past and others I found on YouTube. Cats and rats is really fast. Make ears (for cats) and whiskers (for rats). Kids love to do it.
