Hasty Pudding

Cooking is always fun for children and there is so much to be learned while cooking. There are a few things to keep in mind:

It is assumed that with any recipes that require the use of a heat source (stove, hot plate, oven) there will be adult supervision.

Make sure your child reads through the recipe before starting to be sure they have all the ingredients and tools needed.

Ingredients:

  • 1 t. salt
  • 4 c. water
  • 1 c. yellow cornmeal
  • Milk  and maple syrup, molasses or honey is optional
  • double boiler

Steps:

  • Fill the bottom of the double boiler halfway with water.
  • Place it on the stove over high heat.
  • While the water is coming to a boil, combine the salt and the water in the top of the double boiler.
  • When the water is boiling on top, sprinkle the cornmeal, a little at a time. Stirring constantly.
  • Cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Spoon into bowls and serve with milk.
  • Add maple syrup, molasses or honey to taste.
