- Our famous people from the 1800′s including Davy Crockett and Ann Sullivan.
I have a multi-age classroom and my older students read about people that influenced events during the 1800′s. The assignment was to read the brief summary and write out an outline of the important events. Then come up with 3 questions to be interviewed about that person. After they had an opportunity to tell each other about their person (giving them an opportunity to rehearse), we set up a “campfire” and the whole class came together to hear about these great people. To help them get into character, each student dressed like their person so them could, for a few minutes, be that person.
My students enjoyed presenting their information and everyone learned about new people and how they each made a difference.

Joshua as Buffalo Bill and Ben as Charles Goodnight.

Davy Crockett, Buffalo Bill and Chief Joseph.

Kami and Harriet Beecher Stowe and Molly as Ann Sullivan.

Our "campfire"!
I made this campfire using a vase we had in the room as a base and attaching strips of cut construction paper to it. It turned out great and the students really liked the feeling it created!
