Life as a Pioneer in a One-room Schoolhouse!

June 6, 2012

Life as a pioneer child was a little different then kids today!  My students liked the novelty of it but didn’t like:

  • not being able to have a snack when they wanted it
  • having to go outside to use the “privy” (outhouse)
  • having to work quietly all day and not talking with their friends

They had copy books to work in that included the cursive font used then, period story problems and a photo of a pioneer family that they needed to answer some questions.  We had them held together with a stick.  It made the books look more old-fashioned.

Copying the class rules from the 1800s from the board.
