Online Haiku Tools
I was looking for some examples of writing poetry in the form of a Haiku to show my students and came across this treasure trove! Educational Freeware has a links and resources with the latest in resources for teachers! What a find!
Here are 3 activities that I am definitely using in my classroom!
The graphics and music add to the Japanese atmosphere. The game is timed so come prepared to write quickly. They also give you challenges, like include the word: basement in your haiku. If you are a person that likes to get points, you get extra points if you include the word suggested, otherwise you don’t need to worry about it.
This is a little harder I thought because you have to use the words on the bulletin board but all you have to do is drag them to the lines below and Viola! When you reach the correct number of syllables, the number becomes bold.
This is similar to the last one where they have words to pick from. The graphic of a bonsai tree to pick from is cool and a little easier to see all the words but it still, for young children, limits the words to select from but as a springboard to writing their own, I think it is fun.
