Bubble Meter!

January 29, 2015

Making a huge bubble is fun to watch and play with.

Bubble Meter

Great activity!  Simple to set up and kids loved the activity!

You’ll need:

  • small bowl or cup
  • 1 teaspoon
  • liquid detergent
  • water
  • empty plastic bottle (1/2 liter)
  • bowl of warm water
  • bowl of ice

In the small bowl or cup stir in 1 teaspoon of liquid detergent and 2 teaspoons of water.

Have your children take the bottle and dip the open top into the detergent.  Carefully lift the bottle so that film covers the opening.  Have your children observe how the film/bubble looks and record what they see.

Next, have them gently hold their hands around the bottle, not squeezing.  What happens to the film? Have them draw of what happens.

If the film pops, just have your child reinsert it into the bubble solution.

When they are ready, have them place the bottom of the bottle into a bowl of warm water.  What happens? Draw a picture of what happens to the film.

Then have them do the same thing with a bowl of ice.  What happens?  Have them draw a picture.

My students couldn’t do this enough!  Great experiment.
