Famous People from the 1800s!

February 15, 2016

National Geographic magazine highlighting Lewis and Clark from the 1800’s.

These are short biographical summaries of people that made a difference in the events in the United States during the 1800s.   Since we watched a DVD on Lewis and Clark from National Geographic, that my students enjoyed, I wanted them to focus on other famous people from that time period.  Granted, I could have focused the unit only on Lewis and Clark and everything about it but I was trying to give my students a bigger picture of that time period.

The assignment was to learn about the different people so they could answer questions as that person.  Each student dressed as their person and was interviewed about the things they did to make a difference.  The interviews were conducted around a “campfire”.

The same thing could be done with any of the other people from that time period.  Some of the other people that were from the United States were:

  • Calamity Jane
  • Sacajawea
  • Geronimo
  • Napoleon Bonaparte
  • Andrew Jackson
  • Abraham Lincoln
  • Robert E. Lee
  • Ulysses S. Grant
  • Charles Darwin
  • Billy the Kid
  • Francis Scott Key
  • Jesse James
  • Thomas Jefferson
  • Captain Meriwether Lewis
  • William Clark
  • Wild Bill Hickock
  • Annie Oakley
  • Sitting Bull

Ann Sullivan (153.8 KiB)

Buffalo Bill (433.6 KiB)

Chief Joseph (526.4 KiB)

Daniel Boone (1.3 MiB)

Davy Crockett (892.6 KiB)

Harriet Beecher Stowe (281.7 KiB)

Jim Bridger (449.0 KiB)

Kit Carson (799.3 KiB)
